Rewind, Please: On This Date in 2000…..

the MTV VMAs were mildly tolerable.

I’ve never really been a huge fan of the big music awards ceremonies. The VMAs are a barf fest, the Grammys never really give metal music any air time, and the Teen Choice Awards……well, why even bother. Ugh. Even country music has its own nationally broadcasted music awards show! I mean, c’mon! Who wouldn’t want to watch a 2-hour thrash-tastic, all rage fest, METAL SPECTACULAR!!! If only.

Anyways, in 2000, the VMAs, for once, weren’t wimpy and boring. If there were a theme for any awards show, this show’s would have been rebellion. The first instance came by rapper, DMX, who was scheduled to perform. Normally, I could care less, but I gotta tell you, this DMX guy had some guts. Not only did he skip out on a scheduled VMAs performance prior to the one in 2000, he missed it AGAIN for the 2000 VMAs. Skipping out on the VMAs AGAIN even though they invited you AGAIN? Talk about sticking it to the man.

The real star of the show though was watching the reaction of Rage Against the Machine bassist, Tim Commerford, to losing Best Rock Video to Limp Bizkit. After Limp Bizkit won Best Rock Video, a travesty to all good music, Tim Commerford barged onstage and began climbing up the set trying to take it down. Seriously! How much more metal can you get? Of course, I’d probably do the same if I knew I lost anything to Limp Bizkit. Check out the video of Tim not giving a crap about Limp Bizkit.  Awesome!

WHAT DO YOU THINK?
