Hear Them Now: Deltron 3030

After months of pleading with Indie, he finally let me take over his a column for a week so I can show some love for one of the greatest groups of all time, Deltron 3030!

Even though Deltron 3030 have been around for over 13 years, they didn’t release their second until this past September. That’s the downside to forming a supergroup consisting of famed producer Dan the Automator, superstar DJ Kid Koala, and legendary MC (and Ice Cube’s cousin) Del The Funky Homosapien.

The group’s self-titled debut was a stroke of brilliance that followed super hero and Del’s alter-ego Deltron Zero on an epic space adventure.

Asides from their dope beats and insane rhymes, Deltron 3030 proved these dudes love to let their nerd flag fly. Unfortunately, after the album’s release Koala became sidetracked with his solo career and Dan The Automator and Del hooked up with Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett to work on the Gorillaz project.

Deltron has actually been working on their latest album, Event 2, on and off since 2004. Thankfully, it was worth the wait.

Featuring appearances from The Lonely Island, Rage Against the Machine’s Zach De La Rocha, Damon Albarn, and many more, Event 2 picks up where Deltron 3030 left off, as if that 13 year gap didn’t exist.

Whether you’re a nerd, a hip hop fan, or simply a human being, go check out Deltron 3030. You won’t regret it.

Let us know in the comments below which up and coming artist should be next week’s “Hear Them Now” pick!
