Hear Them Now: Grizfolk

A lot of crappy music has come out of Sweden: Roxette, ABBA, Ace of Base, all those terrible EDM acts (sorry, Techno & Dubstep, though I do appreciate the Kraftwerk shout out earlier today), Europe.

I mean what kind of band claims an entire continent for their name. Not Culkin.

Thankfully, Grizfolk arrived on the scene to help improve Sweden’s terrible music reputation. Band members Fredrik Eriksson and Sebastian Fritze, and Adam Roth have cultivated a catch all sound that manages to be coherent and wonderful.

The band isn’t folk. Nor do they have anything to do Grizzly Bear. But with songs like “Hymnals” and “Vagabonds” the band explores all sorts of musical territory moving from a soaring rock anthem to a lush, serene soundscape.

Setting up a new home base in Los Angeles, the band has been developing a devoted local following, largely due to the power of their incredible live shows.

Grizfolk will be embarking on a U.S. tour beginning in January and they’re absolutely worth checking out. And keep your eyes peeled for the band’s debut album, as its poised to be one of the top releases of 2014.

Let us know in the comments below which up and coming artist should be next week’s “Hear Them Now” pick!
