I didn’t plan on smiling today. Or this week for that matter. But while I was perusing the net I found a live performance of the TLC song “Waterfalls” and voila!
No, I found a live cover of “Waterfalls” performed by the frontman of Dinosaur Jr. and one of the best guitarists of all time – J Mascis. Alongside him is “Portlandia” star Fred Armisen. (If you don’t know Dinosaur Jr. or “Portlandia,” I’m surprised you’ve discovered the Internet at all.) Singing is Sixpence None the Richer’s Leigh Nash who I’ll be choosing to ignore for the remainder of this post. Without further ado, check it out or miss out:
The performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston looks pretty low key – just the way I generally like my live music. And just to make sure there wasn’t too much giggling or dancing they played a Dinosaur Jr. classic “Feel the Pain,” with an outro that highlights why Mascis is a favorite guitarist of mine.
I strongly suggest you look into Mascis and Armisen, not only to escape another berating from me, but for your own enjoyment because, trust me, it’s worth it. During said videos, I closed the door to my office and – briefly mind you – smiled.
