Lady Gaga had me in stitches (RIP Idol’s cat!) this weekend, kicking backside as host and musical guest on “Saturday Night Live.” While Gaga wowed out of the gate with her opening musical number, she proved she’s than more than worthy to be hosting the most beloved sketch comedy show of all time by playing an Apple genius and guest on “Waking Up with Kimye.”
Watching Nasim Perdad and Jay Pharoah nail Kim and Kanye hosting a morning show was great enough, but Gaga’s appearance as an awkward Apple nerd helped make the sketch one of the best of the season so far.
The rest of the episode was jam packed with highlights, including Gaga making a reference to the “Born This Way”/”Express Yourself soundalike controversy, Gaga playing an overly excited dance mom, and Gaga hilariously channeling her washed-up future self.
Gaga’s comedy chops were so great they nearly overshadowed her two songs. While “Gypsy” was slow and beautiful, her performance of “Do What U Want” was the undisputed standout. R. Kelly took time out from collaborating with Justin Bieber to engage in some bumpin’ and grindin’ with Gaga, and thankfully, it never quite reached Miley levels of absurdity.
I definitely endorse Gaga’s future acting efforts and can’t wait to watch her on SNL for years to come!
