Considering all the crazy incarnations of Miley Cyrus over the past few years, it breaks my achy breaky heart that I often forget she is born of country stock.

So I was pleased as punch to watch Miley get back to her roots during yesterday’s MTV Unplugged performance. She looked absolutely adorable all decked out in country western attire. Of course, Miley being Miley, it wasn’t exactly an ensemble you’d find on Patsy Cline, but I guess it’s a move in the right direction.

Miley’s new pal Madonna also followed suit, so to speak, continuing with her Grammy country trend with a tasseled black number that was thankfully cane free.  You’re not that old, Madge!

But there was more to Miley Unplugged than just fashion. Miley and Madonna hooked up (musically!) for a knee-slappin’ countrified mashup of “Don’t Tell Me” and “We Can’t Stop.”

Another highlight of the evening was when Miley covered her “Aunt Dolly” Parton’s classic “Jolene.” Can we expect a country album on the horizon? Fingers crossed.

A Miley performance wouldn’t be a Miley performance unless some Miley antics went down. Anyone who thought she wouldn’t open the show wearing a random blonde wig and twerking with a horse would have been sadly mistaken. Hey, she’s just being MIley!
