Rock Hall of Fame Inductees Decent Enough

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its list of 2014 inductees which include some worthy artists (Nirvana, Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates, Linda Ronstadt,Cat Stevens) and a terrible one (KISS).

When it comes to bands that actually matter like Black Flag and The Replacements I have zero faith in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So resigned to the fact the Hall is relegated to mainstream acts (save for the occasional obscure old school blues musician) I don’t have much interest in the institution.

But hey, I can’t complain about Nirvana, a band that Metal oh so wisely acknowledged, helped bring an end to hair metal. And although, much like his former band Genesis, Peter Gabriel has some big misses (I’m looking at you “Solsbury Hill”) he has enough decent material in his catalog.

Of course, Hall & Oates deserve to be inducted for obvious reasons.

What an awe inspiring ‘stache!

Ronstadt and Stevens, I can give or take.

Which brings us to KISS, which happens to be one of Scene’s favorite bands, but I’m pretty sure she’s never actually heard their music, if you can even call it that.

These guys are all show and no substance. Yes, they hade a major commercial impact on the music industry, but is that really something to celebrated?

No. No it is not.
