The Four Best Solo Acts That Used to Be in Groups

There’s nothing sadder than watching your favorite bands of the past split up. Believe me, when NSYNC broke up I BAWLED for weeks! What would happen to JC? What would happen to Justin? What would happen to Lance Bass and the others? Would my dream of seeing a Backstreet Boys and NSYNC super band never happen Most of the time, the artists in a group that breaks up try to take matters into their own hands, ditch the idea of creating a new group (or just fixing their old one), and decide that the solo performance is the only way to go. Of course, AS ALWAYS they’re solo debuts become soooooo hyped that they almost never live up to it. They’re’s always exceptions though, and that is totes why I’m writing this list!  I’ve listed out my personal picks for the best five solo acts that used to be groups!!! OMG. YAY!

JUTIN TIMBERLAKE (Used to be with NSYNC)

OK! Spoiler alert for people who don’t know (even thought most of you probably do, Justin hits a chord with me shared so little with any other musician. Post-NSYNC breakup was going to be tough for me! No more Justin! Plus his other bandmates were already falling into the deep abyss that is the C-List and guest starring on cooking shows. Then Justin cam out with “Justified.” And then “Futuresex/lovesounds.” And then The 20/20 Experience. And then I screamed for all three of those times. I couldn’t help it! I mean look, he’s just oozing with charisma!!

BEYONCE (Used to be with Destiny’s child)

I’m a survivooooooorrrrrr!!!! Those Destiny’s Child hits were so catchy! Of course, none of it would be possible without the Queen, Beyonce. She seemed to always overshadow the other members, but who could blame her with all that talent. Come out with numerous number one hits and marry one of the most famous rappers in the world. Girl, you are doing good for yourself.

FERGIE (Used to be with Black Eyed Peas)

If “Glamorous” could be played every time I went into the office, I’d forget what a bad attitude actually was. (At the same time, i’d probably be working a lot less and dancing a lot more). She made a big risk splitting up from a globally renowned band, but her singles are just too darn catchy for anyone not to notice. She’s a little busy with being a mama, but, Fergie, when your baby gets old enough to walk, I need you to hop back in the studio and make me a song I can strut to!

GWEN STEFANI (Used to be with No Doubt aaaaaand now she’s back)

I have to say that I’ve learned a lot from Gwen after she broke off with her band, including the phrase Hollaback girl (I still have no clue what it means, but I’m guessing it’s FABULOUS) and how to spell bananas over and over again. Although she’s been very successful on her own, she reunited with the band and released a new album with them. I guess its true! Absence does make the heart grow fonder!

What solo artist do you think has had a successful career after breaking up with their band? Do you agree with any of mine? Let me know in the comments below!
