The Country Music Awards nominations were announced this morning and thanks to reality singing competitions I actually care about some of the nominees! Blake “The Guy from The Voice” Shelton will go up against Keith “The Guy from American Idol” f.k.a. “The Guy Married to Nicole Kidman” Urban for Male Vocalist of the Year. I’m on team Blake because I’m still upset American Idol hired Harry Connick Snoozer as their new judge. Come on, A.I. You’re giving Idols a bad name!
Over in the Female Vocalist of the Year category, former American Idol winners Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson will battle it out for top lady country singer supremacy. According to my identical cousin Country, Kelly Clarkson doesn’t deserve to be nominated because she’s not actually country, so it looks I’ll be pulling for my second favorite Carrie of all time (I will always love you, Carrie Bradshaw, even in spite of the “Carrie Diaries”).
I can’t believe it took me three paragraphs to mention T. Swift who tied B. Shelt with five nominations. They’ll square dance off for Entertainer of the Year along with Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, and George Strait. Hopefully Taylor won’t drop any F-bombs on Harry Styles at this awards show. Unlike the VMAs, the CMAs are classy all the way … which means they will probably be a Harry Connick Snoozefest. Sorry, identical cousin!!!
